Around these parts Northern Michigan is known as God’s Country, and as anyone who has spent time in Northern Michigan can tell you, it really is God’s Country. In the spring the rivers run deep with cold brook trout, the air is crisp and the sun shines down on glistening lakes and streams.

Come summer and the grass is green, the golf courses are filled with golfers seeking that elusive hole in one, and it stays daylight until late in the evening. The cool summer breeze cools you in the hot sun, the water is refreshing and the wind pushes your sailboat or wind surfer along at a brisk pace. Spend a lazy day in the hammock, reading a book or just enjoying the warmth of the sun or the late afternoon rain. In the evening you can take a walk along the dock licking an ice cream cone and visiting with the transient sailors in for the evening.

As the summer draws to a close the winds become brisker, the temperature grows colder and the sun sets ever lower on the horizon. Soon the leaves turn golden, bright yellow, red, amber and all the colors of the rainbow. Then they begin to fall towards earth, gathering in piles the children love to play in. With fall come apples and pumpkins for apple and pumpkin pie with ice cream. As the sun sets lower and darkness comes earlier the smell of burning leaves and baking fill the air, reminding us of the cold winter winds to come.

Now the first snowflakes fall, scattered and lightly at first, gathering speed and quantity until the pine trees glisten white in the early morning light and the day becomes so bright sunglasses are required once again. In the fields you can hear the swish of cross country skis, and the roar of snowmobiles tearing over the countryside in search of new adventures. Darkness comes earlier now, fishermen huddle in their ice fishing huts, and the snowmobile riders and skiers gather around the crackling fireplace to swap stories about the day’s adventures.

Then – magic! Christmas is upon us and couples stroll through snow covered streets checking out the store windows and imagining the gifts they will open on Christmas morning. Sleigh bells ring out from the horse drawn carriages, and people are friendlier, taking a few moments to wish each other holiday greetings. Christmas draws to a close and New Years Eve is upon us with parties and celebration as the new year is ushered in.

Finally, the deep dead dark of winter sets in with cold, cold nights and bone chilling days occasionally bathed in bright sun shine but more often dank and cloudy with snow falling in ever increasing amounts. Soon no one can move, and everyone hunkers down around the fire place sipping cider with cinnamon sticks spiked with apple schnapps. A time for quiet reflection and preparation for the spring which is just around the corner.

Whatever your pleasure, you are sure to find it in Northern Michigan, God’s Country. Here there is golf, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, sailing, fly fishing, boating, snowmobiling and much, much more to pique your interests and keep you young. This is a land of four seasons, and many colors. Whether it is the cherry blossoms or snow on the pine cones, there is beauty that fills the eye wherever you look. The people are friendly, scurrying about to take in all of the signts and sounds, with more to do than you can accomplish in a life time. Those of us who are lucky enough to live in Michigan, and particularly in Northern Michigan, know the excitement each change in season brings. In the fall the leaves are dazzling, the waters reflect the sun and the waves look like diamonds, in the winter snow caps the ground and each town has gas lanterns to light your way as you take that romantic stroll down the street gazing in the shop windows. With spring comes the thaw, and the streams rush to Lake Michigan, filled with brook trout and salmon, teasing the fishermen with the promise of yet another great season. Then summer arrives, with the warm sun and the lazy lakes, resting the weary bones from winter and preparing for the exilirating fall. Then the cherry festival comes, with its pit spitting and cherry pie and ice cream, followed by an intense football season in the crisp fall air.

And then …. it starts all over again! Don’t miss out on experiencing God’s Country – Northern Michigan.
